Substitutes
To apply to become a substitute teacher in our District, please complete the Substitute Teacher application at EdJoin.org. Please submit all required attachments with your application. Once you have submitted your application, it will be sent to the Human Resources Department for review. Not all applicants will be contacted.

Requirements
If you have your California Teaching Credential or 30 Day Sub Permit:
- Copy of Credential or 30 Day Sub Permit
- Copy of CBEST Results or Equivalent
- Official College Transcript Showing Conferral Date of Bachelor's Degree or Higher (sealed mailed transcript or official electronic transcript sent directly from college to snavarrete@seq.org)
- Live Scan Fingerprints for the District (background check; cost covered by the District)
- Copy of Valid Driver's License or Other Government Recognized Photo ID
- Copy of Signed Social Security Card
- Copy of TB Test Results/Clearance (current within 1 year)
If you have your Bachelor's Degree or higher (no permit or CA credential):
- Copy of Certificate of Clearance ($52.50 + applicable Live Scan fees; applicant covers costs)
- Official College Transcript Showing Conferral Date of Bachelor's Degree or Higher (sealed mailed transcript or official electronic transcript sent directly from college to snavarrete@seq.org)
- Live Scan fingerprints for the District (background check; cost covered by the District)
- Copy of Valid Driver's License or Other Government Recognized Photo ID
- Copy of Signed Social Security Card
- Copy of TB Test Results (current within 1 year)
- Will apply for 30 Day Sub Permit or CA Credential ($102.50; applicant covers cost) at the District Office Upon Hire
NOTE: For more information regarding the Certificate of Clearance or 30 Day Sub Permit, please visit the Commission on Teacher Credentialing website at ctc.ca.gov. Effective July 5, 2022, the passage of the Education Omnibus Budget Trailer Bill continues the extension of the number of cumulative days (60 cumulative days in either general education or special education) a substitute teacher can serve in the classroom for one teacher of record until July 1, 2023.
Current Substitute Teachers can sign-in to our online sub system, Frontline Absence Management (formerly Aesop).
Rates
The daily rates for substitutes as of December 1, 2021:
Full Day (above 3.75 hrs)
Half Day (3.75 hrs and below)
Regular Rates
- $240/full day
- $120/half day
Long Term Assignments (15+ consecutive days for the same teacher) and Peak Days
- $260/full day
- $140/half day
SUHSD Retired Teachers
- $280/full day
- $140/half day
Inclusion Aide/Paraprofessional II (one-on-one with a student)
- $29.55/hour (effective 7/1/2022)

Masks covering the mouth and nose are no longer required (please refer to current SUHSD COVID-19 Updates & Resources). Vaccination status will be requested by the District Wellness Coordinator within the first month of employment. Vaccination is NOT required at this time. Lunch time deduction temporarily suspended (school's lunch time currently counts towards time worked).
Completion of this form from a medical provider/clinic will suffice in lieu of actual skin or blood test.
