Special Education
Special Education Overview
The Sequoia Union High School District (SUHSD) is dedicated to providing appropriate support and/or related services to those students with disabilities as determined by an educational evaluation and/or an individualized education plan (IEP). In addition, SUHSD is dedicated to identifying, locating and assessing all students within the district who may have disabilities. The District is committed to providing eligible students with a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) consistent with federal and state laws, including those students enrolled in private schools, wards of the State, and highly mobile students with exceptional needs.
At each of the high schools, special education support and services are provided under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA 2004). Services are provided based on the individual needs of the student. Students with disabilities are likely to benefit from specialized academic instruction given in or out of the general education environment, differentiation of instruction, use of technology, and/or related services to assist the student with making progress on goals. The special education planning process involves the individually planned and systemically monitored arrangement of teacfhing procedures, adapted equipment and materials, accessible settings, and other interventions designed to help learners achieve a higher level of success in school or in the community.
